6E: Grammar #2: Simple past and past progressive (due Sunday, Feb. 2)

Tell us EITHER about the best day of your life OR the worst day of your life. We want details! Who, what, when, where, why, and how, and also, how were you feeling while the event was happening?

Use both simple past and past progressive to narrate your day.

6E: Grammar #1: Past Perfect (due Sunday, Feb. 2)

You had an appointment with me yesterday after class. You didn't come because something happened which prevented you from coming. What happened? Be CREATIVE. Extra points if you make me laugh.

Use the past perfect, but REMEMBER: With before and after, the past perfect isn't necessary because the relationship between the events is clear.

Response to listening #1 (due Friday, January 24)

Today in class we discussed some laws that are not enforced but should be as well as some laws that are enforced but shouldn't be.

As a comment to this post, please describe two laws in your country that fit the above categories (one law for each category).

You might find this humorous...

http://tjshome.com/dumblaws.php

If you have neither the time nor the will to read the entire list, do read the following:

China
Connecticut
New York
New York City
Ohio
Oklahoma
Tennessee (this one will be familiar to you)

I welcome your comments!

Writing #1: Introduce yourself (due Friday, January 24)

Today each of you briefly introduced yourselves to the class. Now I would like you to tell us some more about yourself in writing.

Here are some questions to consider:

Where are you in life (meaning, what stage)? Did you finish high school? College? Graduate school? Are you single or married? Do you have kids?

Talk about your background, and your professional and personal aspirations. Also, discuss your interests, hobbies, and talents. Tell us something about yourself that makes you unique. Feel free to add anything else that you would like to share about yourself with the class.

You should post your writing as a comment to this post. Just click on comment.

This is writing PRACTICE. It does not have to be perfect.

Welcome to the Blog!

Hello 6D, E, and F,

The purpose of this blog is threefold. First, it will be a place for you to do some of your listening homework assignments (and grammar for 6E).  Each week, I will post some listening homework for you. This homework is required for the class. For 6E, I will post one or two questions for you to answer in order to practice the grammar we are learning in class. 6D and 6F are welcome to participate in the grammar exercises, but its not required. For 6E, this is required.

I will also place weekly schedules and other class documents on it so if you're absent on Monday or you misplace something, you can replace it easily.

The second purpose for this blog is for us to share useful information (where to go, where to shop, what to do if you have a problem, etc.). You can also use the blog to post items of interest, such as articles, pictures, invitations, etc. Like facebook, but not facebook :D

Finally, I will use the blog to post internet links for different activities that I think will benefit you. These will be optional.

You should check this blog every few days in order to keep current with the class.

I look forward to a great semester with all of you, and I look forward to "seeing" you on-line,
HC
