6E: Grammar #17: Modifying Adjecitve Clauses with Quantity (due Friday)

Please write complex sentences with interesting details in your adjective clauses.

There are many expressions of quantity, so use a variety (some, all, none, one, two, a few, many, not many, a bunch, several, etc.).

Remember:
For people:  Whom or whose
For things:  Which or whose

Example 1:  
I have many students this semester, one of whom speaks Vietnamese, another of whom speaks Thai, two of whom come from Africa, a bunch of whom come from Venezuela, and the majority of whom come from the Middle East and speak Arabic.

Example 2:  
I have six kittens in my house, two of which are black and white, two of which are striped tabbies, one of which is all black, and one of which is grey and white.

Begin the sentences as follows:

    1. 1. I love to do three different activities, first of which is swimming, second of which is hanging out with my friends and the last of which is to do community services.

      2. I like a few types of food, first of which is a typical food from Angola named Funge, second of which is chicken and rice and third of which is pasta.

      3. I have two different cell phones, one of which I use to make and receive calls related with my job, the other of which I use with my family and friends.

      4. I have several ideas about how to improve Holly's class, one of which is playing more grammar games, one of which is hanging out every Monday all class in order to practice listening and speaking out of class, and one of which is to do a presentation every Friday.

    9. There are many great places in my country to visit when you come, all of which are natural beauties, some of which are on the mountains, many of which are beaches, and none of which can be forgotten when you leave.

    10. I have learned many new things this semester, one of which is the ability to apply grammar to daily speaking, another of which is how to do a research paper, some of which are reading skills, and all of which are very useful for my further study.

    2. Holly, in number 3, if "some" means two or three activities, then can I say "some of which need a partner"? or do we always use verb in singular with "some"?

  3. 1. I have had several teachers at the LCC, some of whom are not native Americans and all of whom have teaching me how to improve my English.

    2. I know many interesting people, one of whom is my father, who is the most admirable person that I have known, and another of whom is my mother, who has taught me many things about the lives, and became me in a person who I am.

    3. I love to do many different activities, one of which is to spend time with my cousin, who is 4 years old, one of which is to call my family in Venezuela, and other of which is to go to the gym although I have not gone this semester.

    4. I have 5 siblings, three of whom are females, and two of whom are males. Two of my sisters live in Houston and the rest of my siblings live in Venezuela.

      You haven't gone to the gym for several reasons, one of which is that you've been working so hard in class that you're too exhausted to work out outside of class!

      You have demonstrated several things with this exercise, one of which is that you understand the lesson, and another of which is that you're writing has improved greatly since the beginning of the semester.

    2. Q2 I know some singers from the christian community, one of whom is Danilo Montero my pastor, another of whom is Coalo Zamorano and the last of whom is Ingrid Rosario. Actually all of them are really famous.
      Q4 Actually I don't have any problem with my research paper it was just a sentence.
      Q10 The golden rules of academic English are twelve principles that were created by thong, one of which is the principle of laziness, another of which is principle of musicality and the last of which is the plane crash.
